Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
MyBookCubby is built on a simple principle: your library is personal. We designed this app to keep your data on your device and out of our hands.
What Data We Collect
MyBookCubby collects almost nothing. Specifically:
- Your library data — stored entirely on your device. We never see what books or music you own.
- Barcode and ISBN lookups — when you scan a barcode, a request is sent to our metadata server to look up the title and cover art. We do not log which barcodes you scan or associate them with any user identity.
- Waitlist email — if you sign up for our launch waitlist, we store your email address solely to notify you when the app launches. We will never sell it or use it for any other purpose.
What We Don't Collect
- We don't require account creation
- We don't track your reading or listening habits
- We don't collect device identifiers or analytics
- We don't serve ads and never will
- We don't sell any data to any third party
Third Party Services
When looking up book or music information, our server makes requests to:
- Open Library (openlibrary.org) — for book metadata and cover images
- MusicBrainz (musicbrainz.org) — for music metadata
- Cover Art Archive (coverartarchive.org) — for album artwork
These requests include only the barcode or search term — no personal information is transmitted.
Data Storage
Your personal library — all the books and music you've added — is stored locally on your device using a SQLite database. It never leaves your phone unless you explicitly export it.
Children's Privacy
MyBookCubby does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app contains no features that require personal data from any user.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and notify waitlist members by email.
